Welcome to the recession

New Yorkers, you can now officially take advantage of the Gray's Papaya recession special.

I don't eat hot dogs myself, but I'm told by people who do that they are actually quite tasty. The owner also went all out for Obama during the presidential campaign, if that makes any difference.

Chaotic week. New York mom is back in the ICU. She was so morose and sure that she's at death's door yesterday that I called her daughter (Grifter) and told her to get her butt over to the hospital NOW - which, to her credit, she did. New York mom looked and felt much better today, thankfully. I don't care if things go three steps forward and then two steps back, as long as the net direction is forward.

Check back tomorrow Friday night (Sorry!) and I'll tell you why I HATE shopping for women's professional clothes.

4 retorts. What say you?

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. The hospital waltz is such a tough dance. I've got my fingers crossed for her.

I'm sorry also. I'm doing a lot of back and forthing to "med central" these days with my own mother. You know it's bad when . . . you know the ER nurses by name and they know you, too.

I can tell you already why buying women's professional clothing can drive you around the bend - it isn't out there unless you hand over your life savings.
Everything else that is "professional" is not businesslike enough for my profession.

I am also sad to hear about New York Mom, but I agree that any net movement forward is good news.

I hate shopping for professional clothing because most isn't cut for a full figure. It either fits like a tent or nothing quite makes it around the curves.

I agree with Anonymous 10:03 PM that the clothes are also terribly expensive. It's like vendors believe that all professionals are rich and overcharge for the "professional" look.

Thankfully, my job allows for really casual dress although I suspect I'll need to upgrade that in the coming months. ;-)

Thanks, Revanche. I really appreciate it.

Anon - very sorry to hear that your mom is going through much the same. You are good to be standing by her side during all of it.

I don't have to be as conservative as I like to dress at work, but I sure don't want to look like a damn fool either in some of the crazy ass styles that are out there. Lately, I've been leaning more towards the idea of spending more to get something that works for me and lasts for years.

Hawa - yes, that's another problem. Some of the cuts are so strange that my butt ends up looking like it needs its own zip code.

Whether you should upgrade depends largely on the culture of your workplace, but I think it was the right thing for me to do. Perception counts for a lot, especially in this scary economy.
